This is the story of Firdaus, who rebels against a society founded on lies, hypocrisy, brutality, and oppression. Born into a peasant family in Egypt, Firdaus struggles throughout her childhood, seeking compassion and knowledge in a world that offers her very little of either. From her cell, Firdaus, condemned to die for killing a pimp on a Cairo street, recounts her life from childhood in the village to life as a prostitute in the city.
